Presentation Day

Conditions: Fine, sunny, perfect football weather for one last hurrah!

No early start required for this one but several parents still feeling the pain from over indulging at the end of season Sharks function the night before!

The game started well with the Houndsharks lined up against the Hammerheads.
Umpire Clarkie Martin withstood some early harassment from the crowd and Coach Darin was told in no uncertain terms to pull his weight on the field or get off!

At half time we were informed we would win extra points for every Mum that took to the field.  Some Mums were more eager than others to get out on the ground.
In case you didn't see it or hear about it - I took a spectacular mark and finished it off with a banana torpedo punt goal!!!!!

Unfortunately there seems to be no photographic evidence of these spectacular feats so I've put these photos in to give you an idea of how it all unfolded!

First I marked the ball just like this

then I finished it off with a magnificent goal kicked like this!

OK enough about me...... but if you want to hear about it again - just ask and I'll be happy to share it with you.

In the final quarter it was the Dad's turn...some of the mum's decided to stay on and help (thankfully as I think the Dad's needed it) At the end of the day it was a free-for-all and it became evident what Darin was up against this year if any of the parents were trying to help out by coaching their sons in the background! Chaos ensued and despite being hamstrung by our own team and falling prey to some dirty tactics by the other parents,  everyone had loads of fun!!

Garth (maybe should have some skills training with Mitch and Lachlan?)

New way to take a player out - just carry him over your shoulder!
Lachie Leason lines up for a goal

Mum Katrina happy to wave that one through!

Steve tries the "flap flap" dance to distract this determined mum

Um...you guys are on the same team... Fitzy were you in charge of our board during the season?

Um once again...you guys are on the same team

Nice hands Peter (obviously the best part of your game based on later play!)

Steve tries to conjure the ball to him "come to me....come to me"

oh here we go....some proper football play from Steve

old habits dies hard...hanging round the packs just waiting for the ball

Hasn't lost his kicking style either!

if I just hold my hands up like this the ball just might find them????

some were just more interested in lovin' than playin'

gee Darin you got air....(in more places than you intended?)

Peter (Clark's Dad) seems to be shepherding or is he going to give Darin a push in the back???

"oh no, there go my glasses"

"where am I? what is this?, who is this?"

You're on the same team guys!!! Darin manages to hold onto the ball with one hand, dealing with this unprovoked attack by Peter with the other!

Peter hits the deck, Darin evades a dirty round the neck tackle from the other side

Darin manages to break the illegal tackle (where was umpire Martin & his whistle?)

and he's off.....

finishes off with a nice kick

meanwhile Peter decides Aussie Rules is no place for spectacles (God help our team now!)

Kevin (Ace's dad) and Steve (Sam's dad) helping out our team

Kevin looks horrified and tries to kick the ball into a few of our own players...!

The smiles tell the story (notice goal umpiring runs in the Leason family)
Shaking hands...most of managed to line up on the right side

Melissa & Matt waiting for the presentation of the medals

Softy and Jacob

Handing out the medals

"next year I dont want to be called Softy, Ok guys?"

Everyone singing the team song

After the medal presentations we went inside for our team presentations.  Katrina did a great job organising gifts for Coach Darin and Team Manager Melissa who both worked hard and did an excellent job throughout the season.  (Thank you all for my gift as well)!  Extra special thanks also to Peter Leason who organised sponsorship to pay for an authentic Premiership Flag for each boy.  Fabulous donation!  Apparently a few parents were feeling the effects of their on field feats with Darin seen limping around the club rooms with an old hip injury and Paul Dear with a dodgy back.   It seemed they thought a few quiet beers might aid their recovery. Fortunately no one pulled any hammy's and no kids were harmed in the process of indulging a few old hacks!
A fun way to end the season!

Happy Birthday Matt
