Houndsharks vs Oakleigh
Darin told the boys the previous two games were the best games of footy they
have played and now they needed to play the best game ever to win the flag. Oakleigh and Sharks went into this final game undefeated and the winner of this game would take out the Lightning Premiership.
Mitchell took a great first mark off the opposition and sent
it down for Clark to kick the first point.
Numerous ball ups by the ump and successful possession by the
Sharks. Another mark in the goal square
this time by Daniel. Oakleigh were tough,
decisions were tough but we were tougher!
Trailing Oakleigh by 4 points at half time Darin brought the boys over near the parents for their half
time chat as he wanted them to see the support they had and how proud we were
of them. “Grab hold of this opportunity and take it home for the flag.
Focus on the ball don’t worry about the umpire
or the other team just run and kick to the goal square.”
Our Sharks stuck to their man and played a brilliant second half holding Oakleigh scoreless - while adding 1.6 to our score.
Fitzy took a big mark and sent a huge kick down to Nate who marked it and sent it through for a point. Clever footwork and great dodge by Matty E. Ace grabbed the ball and held his footing well. Jacob again sent a massive kick down the oval towards goal for Mitchell to mark and propel through for a point. Max’s height and agility found him with the ball easily sending it towards our end. Will had his head down and wasn’t going to let the ball go, he kept fighting and chasing all game.
The match was fast from the start with tension running high on the boundary with 5 points up and 4 mins to go. Dads were watching the clock and Mums trying to remember the scores… all trying to control their excitement. Siren sounded and a huge roar from the crowd. There were whistles, cheers, tears, clapping and a loud round of the Beauy Shark club song. Massive team effort and spirit which was brilliant to witness. You have come a long way Houndsharks and now you are Premiers.
