Conditions: Coldest June day in 19 years with continual rain!
The question of whether training would be on was raised in the Dear household last Thursday after school and even Nate's 8 year old sister made the observation that "Softy would never cancel training again" (made me laugh that she really thinks his name is Softy now and that even an 8 yr old has observed the scars inflicted on poor Darin).
Nate was taken to training by another coach who also believes in the adage "you play in the wet, you train in the wet". He came home saturated, shivering and covered in short grass clippings that somehow keep appearing throughout our house!
Unable to quite believe that the Sharks had let a bunch of young boys run around outside in that rain for an hour I asked Nate if this was so - he reported:
- There was only about one team's worth of crazy parents out there who actually made their boys train that night (out of 4 under 10 teams)
- There was so much water out the front of the club rooms it was like a lake and some of the boys had great fun wading through it (his boots have never been cleaner but took days to dry)
- They tried to get warm in front of the fire after training but had to push all the Dad's out of the way who actually sat in the warm club rooms enjoying a drink while a few hardier Dads (Softy included) ran training
- And the biggest news of all : Softy actually had the pink umbrella out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking for photographic evidence of Softy with his prized gift. Please forward if you have it and I will put it on the blog. Here's one of Nate after training with the pink umbrella he didn't get to use!
